- The companies will collaborate to transition industrial facilities that use fossil fuel-based cogeneration systems to lower-carbon, more competitive energy models
- The collaboration will drive the development of renewable gases, from the conversion of biogas plants to biomethane to the production of e-fuels through the utilization of biogenic CO2
- Through “Moeve decarbonize”, the company is expanding its portfolio of solutions for industry and other B2B customers, drawing on ENSO’s expertise in bioenergy, cogeneration, and renewable thermal generation
- The initiative reflects a shared vision that decarbonization is a key driver of competitiveness, capable of generating savings and sustainable investment
Moeve and ENSO, a group specializing in the development of biomass-based renewable energy solutions, have reached an agreement to advance industrial decarbonization by developing energy alternatives that will enable the gradual replacement of fossil fuels.
Together, they will offer alternatives for energy-intensive industrial processes in sectors such as chemicals, paper and board, and food and beverage, which are characterized by high demand for steam and thermal energy and currently rely on generation systems fueled by coal, natural gas, and other fossil fuels.
In addition to transitioning these facilities to models based on advanced biomass, the alliance also opens up new opportunities in the development of renewable gases: from the conversion of biogas plants to biomethane to the potential development of e-fuels (RFNBOs) using biogenic CO2 generated at bioenergy facilities. Capturing and utilizing this CO2 makes it possible to turn it into a new feedstock. In this area, Moeve may participate as a potential offtaker of the new green molecules produced, complementing ENSO’s capabilities in renewable generation and biogenic carbon capture.
ENSO already has experience with this type of technology integration at its biopower plant in Garray, Soria, which was the first biopower plant in Spain to integrate a system for capturing and upgrading 100% renewable food-grade CO2.
An alliance to boost industrial competitiveness
Both companies aim to support industrial businesses in transforming their energy systems through projects designed to generate savings, reduce emissions, and enhance energy security, while also facilitating the investments needed to make them a reality.
Elías Hernández, CEO of ENSO, said that: “Industry needs solutions that allow it to advance its decarbonization while increasing its competitiveness. We believe both can and should be part of the same equation. Our ability to invest in, build, and operate large-scale bioenergy infrastructure, combined with Moeve’s capabilities and reach, will enable us to turn decarbonization opportunities into real projects that generate savings and long-term value for our customers.”
“This agreement allows us to keep advancing green molecules as a real solution for decarbonizing energy-intensive sectors. Through our ‘Moeve decarbonize’ offering, and building on ENSO’s strong track record, we will provide our industrial customers with a broader range of energy solutions, combining heat, power, and renewable gases in processes where electrification is not always feasible.”

Decarbonizing to improve industrial competitiveness
The alliance combines ENSO’s expertise in developing, financing, building, and operating bioenergy projects with Moeve’s capabilities in energy supply and in the development and marketing of green molecules.
The collaboration reflects both companies’ shared view that competitiveness and decarbonization go hand in hand in industrial development. The energy transition requires significant investment, but it also represents an opportunity to modernize industrial assets, reduce exposure to energy market volatility, and lower production costs over the long term.
This model makes it possible to undertake large-scale, complex energy projects and enables industrial companies to invest in efficiency and sustainability without diverting resources from their core business, including by exploring asset co-investment models that accelerate the transition.
The agreement also comes at an important time for cogeneration in Spain, ahead of the upcoming auctions planned for this technology. This new investment cycle may represent an opportunity for many industrial companies to upgrade their generation systems and move toward more efficient, lower-carbon solutions.
Through this alliance, Moeve and ENSO are reinforcing their commitment to the energy transformation of industry with concrete, bankable solutions tailored to the needs of each facility, particularly in processes where high thermal demand makes replacing fossil fuels more complex.
