- The partnership between these three entities will establish a genuine framework of collaboration to boost these certificates and generate new job opportunities in the sector
- A CAE is an electronic document that certifies energy savings equivalent to 1 kWh over a one-year period, enabling financial returns
Moeve, the Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Ingenieros Industriales (CGCOII), and Bettergy have signed a collaboration agreement to streamline and facilitate the process of obtaining Energy Saving Certificates (CAE), which will help promote efficiency and the energy transition. Through this agreement, the three entities established a genuine framework of collaboration based on the highest quality standards. Bettergy will manage a platform for processing these energy savings, where CGCOII members can submit energy saving actions as CAE precursors. Moeve will then be able to acquire them providing technical, regulatory, and financial robustness to the entire value chain.
A CAE accredits energy savings equivalent to 1 kWh during a one-year period, resulting from actions such as changing lighting, improving thermal insulation, replacing industrial or domestic equipment, or even in the field of mobility. In other words, if a new investment leads to a saving of 500 kWh in one year, 500 CAEs can be obtained, which will subsequently generate financial returns for the precursor owner of that initial investment.
In this way, the new agreement will enable a productive ecosystem that contributes to the challenge of energy saving aggregation while showcasing the initiatives and projects developed by CGCOII members. According to official data from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), since the implementation of the CAE mechanism, nearly 4,500 GWh of energy savings have already been submitted for certification, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 1.8 million households. For the requests made to date, MITECO also states that the average remuneration is around €130/MWh.
“This new agreement that has been reached with important partners such as COII and Bettergy allows us to boost energy efficiency in Spain. We will also be able to promote certain principles that are very important for Moeve: moving towards a more sustainable future and stimulating quality employment.”
José Manuel Martínez, executive vice president of Technology, Projects, and Services at Moeve
César Franco, chair of CGCOII highlighted: "This agreement formalizes the integration of industrial engineers' technical expertise into the regulated CAE system. Our participation reinforces the identification, quantification, and rigorous verification of energy savings, with a competent methodology and accredited professional expertise. Thanks to the territorial reach of the CGCOII's professional associations, we will be able to bring these energy efficiency solutions across the country, decisively supporting decarbonization and enhancing business competitiveness. Working alongside entities like Moeve and Bettergy adds further value, as we combine technical expertise, technological capacity, and business strength in a single joint project."
In the words of Antonio Ruiz, Director of Bettergy, "With this agreement, we put technology at the service of engineering. Our CAE management platform will allow industrial engineers to turn each efficiency project into a certified, measurable energy asset with a financial return. This joint step with Moeve and the COII reinforces our vision of a Spain that leads decarbonization through engineering, innovation, and technical talent."
The CAE system is an instrument that allows Moeve to advance its Positive Motion strategy, with which it aspires to lead the energy transition in Europe by 2030. These types of agreements, such as the one signed with CGCOII and Bettergy, enables the energy company to stimulate the search for energy efficiency in productive, business, and individual sectors, making it more accessible to a broader range of users. Meanwhile, it also strengthens the value chain in the field of engineering for the development of the CAE system and contributes to the development of others in new innovative sectors.
