Green methanol is a synthetic fuel produced from green hydrogen and non-fossil carbon captured from the atmosphere or generated from agricultural and forestry waste.
Among its advantages, in addition to reducing emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels, it is liquid at room temperature, making it easy to store and transport.
As part of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley initiative, we are collaborating with C2X to build Europe's largest green methanol plant in the Port of Huelva. With an investment of up to €1 billion, it will be one of the five largest green methanol plants in the world, with an estimated annual production capacity of 300,000 tons, which will prevent the emission of up to 1 million tons of CO2.
The construction of the plant, which is scheduled to start operating in 2028, will create 2,500 direct and indirect jobs and position Andalusia as a leading global hub for sustainable energy.
Green methanol is an innovative and essential solution for a more sustainable future. Green methanol is produced from renewable sources such as agricultural and forestry waste, which means that its life cycle actively contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By choosing green methanol, industries and transportation are opting for a clean alternative that drives decarbonization and protects our planet, proving that it is possible to grow and prosper while caring for the environment.
