Moeve has received Expoquimia 2026’s Best in Class Award for the construction and commissioning of Spain’s first isopropyl alcohol (IPA) plant, a key project for strengthening the country’s industrial autonomy and advancing the sustainable transformation of the chemical sector.
The recognition was presented by Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, during the gala dinner held as part of Expoquimia, one of the leading international events for the chemical industry, bringing together leading companies, institutions, and industry experts.
In addition, during the same gala, Moeve received further recognition for its business strategy, highlighting its shift toward a model based on sustainability, innovation, and the development of green molecules. The recognition was presented by Carles Navarro, chair of the Expoquimia 2026 Organizing Committee, and accepted by Moeve Chemicals CEO José María Solana.
This double recognition strengthens Moeve’s role as one of the key players in transforming the chemical industry toward more sustainable, innovative, and competitive models.
The new IPA plant, located in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, will ensure reliable, safe, high-quality access in Spain to this essential product, which is widely used in sectors such as healthcare and hospitals, pharmaceuticals, electronics and semiconductors, as well as cleaning and personal care. It will also help reduce dependence on imports from third countries.
“This recognition underscores the efforts we are making under our Positive Motion strategy to develop innovative solutions and products that contribute to the decarbonization of the sector and the transition toward chemical production based on green molecules.”
Álvaro Llanos, director of Moeve’s Intermediates Business in the chemicals area.
A key compound for multiple sectors
Isopropyl alcohol is a key component in the manufacture of disinfectant and cleaning products thanks to its biocidal properties. In addition to its use in healthcare, it is employed in industries as diverse as electronics and semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, optics, automotive, food, and personal care.
Moeve’s plant is capable of using both energy and raw materials from renewable sources to produce IPA. It also holds ISCC Plus environmental certification, an internationally recognized system that guarantees the sustainability, traceability, and mass balance of recycled and bio-based raw materials.
