- One-year agreement running from July 2026 to June 2027 supports DHL’s ambition to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels
DHL Express, the world’s leading international express logistics provider, and Moeve today announced the signing of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offtake agreement at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). Under the agreement, DHL Express will purchase approximately 2 million U.S. gallons (around 6,000 metric tons) of SAF during the one-year term from July 2026 through June 2027. The volume is expected to cover approximately 50% of DHL Express’ fuel consumption at its Madrid gateway, representing a significant step forward in reducing emissions from air transport operations in Spain.
The SAF supplied under the agreement is produced from waste and residue feedstocks as defined in Annex IX parts A and B of the EU Renewable Energy Directive, including materials such as used cooking oil. Compared with conventional jet fuel, SAF can save around 80 % lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions reductions and plays a critical role in the decarbonization of aviation.
“Sustainable aviation fuel is one of the most effective levers currently available to reduce emissions from air freight transportation. This agreement with Moeve enables us to significantly increase the use of SAF at one of our key European gateways and demonstrates how collaboration across the aviation value chain can accelerate the transition to lower-emission logistics. By securing SAF volumes equivalent to around half of our fuel consumption in Madrid, we are making meaningful progress toward our goal of increasing SAF use to 30 percent by 2030,” emphasized Tomás Holgado, vice president Aviation, DHL Express Spain.

Partnerships such as this demonstrate that the energy transition moves faster when producers and customers work together to reduce emissions in sectors that are difficult to electrify, like aviation."

Madrid is one of DHL Express’ key European air gateways, connecting international and domestic express shipments across Europe and beyond. The agreement with Moeve strengthens DHL’s growing network of SAF partnerships and contributes to the company’s ongoing efforts to scale the availability and adoption of sustainable fuels in aviation.
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of DHL Express and Moeve to supporting the decarbonization of air transport through practical and scalable solutions available today. By utilizing SAF derived from eligible waste and residue feedstocks, the agreement supports both circular economy principles and the reduction of aviation-related emissions.
To ensure these environmental benefits are transparently delivered to customers, DHL incorporates SAF volumes into its GoGreen Plus service offering. GoGreen Plus enables customers to reduce transportation-related emissions through the use of sustainable fuels and a verified book-and-claim mechanism. Through this approach, DHL can replace fossil jet fuel with SAF within its network and allocate the associated environmental attributes to customers, even when individual shipments are not transported on aircraft fueled directly with SAF. GoGreen Plus helps customers reduce indirect Scope 3 emissions arising from transportation and distribution activities, while supporting voluntary greenhouse gas reporting and progress toward their own sustainability targets.
As part of its sustainability roadmap, DHL Group has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and aims to increase the share of sustainable aviation fuels in air transport to more than 30 percent by 2030. The agreement with Moeve marks another important milestone in advancing these objectives and driving the broader adoption of sustainable aviation fuels across the logistics and aviation sectors.n.
