Cepsa has renewed the certification of its maritime terminals in the Port of Huelva according to the “Quality of Service for Concessionaires of Bulk Goods Terminals” in Spanish Ports, in force since 2012. This standard validates the port activity of port terminal concessionaires, in addition to all shipping companies and entities providing port services.
In this annual evaluation, carried out by AENOR, all the technical aspects related to the activity of the Company's maritime terminals in Palos de la Frontera were addressed from the point of view of operations, prevention and safety measures, customer service and facility maintenance.
The auditors and the representatives of the Huelva Port Authority, as well as the facilities of the “La Rábida” refinery, have inspected the “Reina Sofía” and “Torre Arenillas” maritime terminals, as well as the crude oil unloading single buoy mooring.
The latter actions are in line with the recently renewed good environmental practices agreement signed with the Huelva Port Authority, which is aimed at continuing Cepsa's leadership in adopting best environmental practices.
Audited facilities
Cepsa operates two maritime loading and unloading terminals in the Port of Huelva: the “Torre Arenillas” wharf and the “Reina Sofía” wharf, both in the Padre Santo channel, the main navigable section of the mouth of the Tinto and Odiel rivers. “Torre Arenillas” stands 5.5 kilometers from the factory, and allows ships of up to 70,000 dwt (deadweight tons) to be loaded and unloaded on its two docking wharves. The “Reina Sofia” wharf (administrative concession) is 3.5 km away and has four berths with capacity for vessels of up to 50,000 dwt. It also has a single buoy mooring (a concession) which is 10 km off the coast of Huelva, where large tankers, i.e. up to 199,000 dwt, can moor.
Other certifications
Throughout the year, Cepsa submits the four main aspects that govern its activity, Safety, Environment, Quality and Energy, to various internal and external audits that accredit the excellence of its management and production processes.
Every year, Cepsa's two centers in Huelva draw up an Environmental Statement, one of the requirements for inclusion in the register of eco-audited centers in Andalusia (EMAS).
Cepsa's La Rábida Refinery was the first Spanish oil refinery to be registered in 1998.
The La Rábida refinery also has the international OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) certification on risk prevention systems, which is audited annually by an authorized company, and also the certification of the European directive 96/82/EC, known as SEVESO II, on the control of inherent hazards regarding serious accidents with dangerous substances.
