Rubén Calero, Net Zero Technologies researcher at the Innovation Center at Moeve, explains what e-SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) is, why it matters, and the role it plays in decarbonizing the aviation sector
e-SAF is a sustainable synthetic aviation fuel, or e-fuel, produced from green hydrogen and captured CO2. It’s one of the key fuels included in "Fit for 55,” the European Union’s package of measures aimed at cutting CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. Specifically, it is included in the EU’s “ReFuelEU Aviation” regulation, which promotes the decarbonization of the aviation sector.
