Refolution is a pioneering European initiative focused on biofuel production to help decarbonize air and maritime transport.
Refolution is born with the aim of contributing to the ambitious climate commitments of the European Union, such as the ‘Fit for 55’ package and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Sustainably produced biofuels are key to reducing CO2 emissions, providing up to 14% of global transport fuel and 45% for aviation by 2050.
This project tackles the key challenges hindering biofuel adoption, such as the complexity of converting plant dry matter (lignocellulosic biomass) and integrating technologies into existing production plants, along with certifying both the process and the product. In this context, Refolution offers innovative solutions to overcome these barriers and maximize the potential of the 93 operating plants in Europe, achieving a reduction of up to 30% in CO2 emissions from their main units.
At Moeve, we’re joining this initiative to integrate advanced biofuel conversion processes in our facilities, enhance digitalization, implement the latest innovations for green carbon tracking, and lay the groundwork for certifying biofuels used in aviation and maritime transport.
This project embodies our commitment to innovation and sustainability, transforming our Energy Parks into green molecule production centers. With Refolution, we’re heading towards a cleaner, more efficient energy model that aligns with our decarbonization goals and those of our customers.
“Refolution offers a unique opportunity to integrate disruptive technologies into our Energy Parks without the need to build new production plants from the ground up, reducing costs and accelerating the transition to sustainable fuels. This project not only promotes technological innovation, it also strengthens our role as leaders in the energy transition”.
